PERSONA VS PERSONALITY

Client: College Project for ISTD
Year: 2018

(Long spiel this way ︎)This project is in response to the I.S.T.D. (International Society of Typographic Design) brief ‘Mark My Words’. The brief asked students to examine the history of any chosen word and create a typographic response. The word I have chosen to look at is ‘personality’. It’s roots trace back to the Etruscan word ‘phersu’, meaning mask. I found this interesting as it opens up questions about the nature of personality. Is personality our innate character or a mask we wear? ︎︎︎To try and look at this question more closely, I decided to frame the project as if it was a conversation between a psychiatrist and patient. Focusing on the idea of living life as if it were a performance. ︎︎︎I also looked at ideas around the collective subconscious and explored the different archetypes that appear over and over again in fairy tales, legends and modern culture.
